In goblets of college silver port was flowing

Clever solute for mixed tablets of intellect

Think, solve

decipher and compute

were fellowship tools. Old and New Court charmed

Corpuscles that clung, cold, to truths in chapel and in books Students sought wise warmth in the old

and the new

But, the place’s name tightly overcame me, then eased,

Corpus christi pressed into one body

Broken for us. I’m pleased

all the law, lawns and components

of Cambridge life were appended

real and metaphysical

until the synthesis ended
