Pinch of pepper

I am thrilled to see one of poems feature in this anthology: https://hybriddreich.co.uk/the-joy-of-living/

Here is the poem:

Pinch of pepper

Walking at dusk clears my head.

Nightshades with a pinch of pepper.

Vixens yipping, their clocks locked

in a copse.

Waiting for love.

Underbellies upon wintry ground.

A streetlamp blurs.

I notice three rings of sodium.

The haloes become one in the dark.

The gracious blade of my optic nerve.

Crossing the threshold, my body warms.

I see our love by the fireplace.

Like a third person

or a scent of mauve, unearned love.

This culture clash smoke is revealed

as I sing to these vapours.

A bone clicks.

Nerves signal the end of my selfish wasting.

Baths empty with a whisper.

My voiceless hands are upturned.

I rush to find you.

We dream of new fusions that feel

the dawning and growth of stars.

We dance

and our freedom laughs all night.
